For the next several weeks, as we do combined services with Next Church we’ll be looking into the amazing words of Jesus contained in John chapters 14-17. In the previous message, we looked at the super encouraging verses in John 14 verses 1-6. Pastor Dave will be teaching on the following passage, verses 7-14 in the next message. Right now, I want to take a moment to look at verses 7 and 8...

Philip wanted to see God the Father. That sight of the Father is what he felt He needed in order to understand, to believe, to be ok, to feel comfortable with all that Jesus was saying. And Jesus answered Philip in the following verses, basically telling him that he has seen the Father- by seeing Jesus. I’m sure Philip was really wanting more of an answer through the heavens opening up and revealing God the Father on His majestic throne surrounded by angels, wonder, and glory. But instead, Jesus didn’t reveal that to him, but basically responded by stating that Philip already had what He needed to understand, to believe, to be ok, to feel comfortable with what Jesus was saying.

I believe this same scenario plays out often in our lives as well. “Jesus, if you would just do this in my life, that would be enough for me. If you’d just fix this situation, bring me better finances, bring me my spouse, heal me or my family member… then that would be enough for me. I’d be satisfied, I’d live more for you, I’d spend more time with you, I’d know You really love me, I’d be a better witness for you...” And I can imagine Him saying “No, you have exactly what you need- believe and do My works.”

Church, pray with me that we as God’s people would realize Jesus is enough. May our belief, faith, and trust be increased, and may we realize that, as Peter states in 2 Peter 1:3 “His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.” God has given you all that you need pertaining to true life and godliness. May you and I as His people walk in that today!
