Creation vs. Evolution, Standard vs. No-Standard

Several weeks ago we had posted a video of me having a conversation with Tyler, who was formerly an atheist. And he mentioned a book that was really powerful in changing his worldview. The book is entitled “The Ultimate Proof of Creation” by Dr. Jason Lisle. I was curious- I purchased the book, and have been enjoying reading it. The author is very intelligent, and using logic, he presents a strong case against evolution. His basic premise is that only through a biblical, Judeo-Christian, Creationist worldview can there exist understanding of science, laws of physics, laws of logic, laws of nature. From an evolutionist’s worldview, who presumes the universe is an accident and that our brains resulted from accidental mutation, there really is no basis for uniformity found in nature, there is no ability to assume the laws of nature will work in the future as they have in the past, there’s no basis for laws of logic or for even deciding what is right or wrong. If evolution were true, then there really isn’t a moral standard by which we could deem anything to be right or wrong. From an evolutionist’s viewpoint, there really can’t exist people who do “right” or “wrong,” but rather people are just chemical accidents interacting with other chemical accidents.
The author argues that only in the Christian worldview do we have a moral obligation to follow laws of logic, and thus are even able to debate in a coherent fashion. Only through the creator God do we have order and uniformity in nature. Only through the creator God do we have a standard of what is right and what is wrong. God Himself has promised that He will uphold the Earth in a consistent fashion- God states in Genesis 8:22 “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” God has given us the 10 commandments and has set a standard through His written word for what is deemed right and for what is deemed wrong.
Now maybe you’re not debating with evolutionists that often, but the basic premise contained in this book gives some pretty good insight into a lot of what is going on around us. What we have witnessed over time is a passing from holding tightly to God’s moral code and standards, to holding somewhat loosely to God’s moral code and standards, to now completely abandoning God’s moral code and standards. This is why so much of what we see in our society or in the headlines doesn’t make sense. This is why what is right today is wrong tomorrow, and what is wrong today is right tomorrow. We as a society are reaping the fruits of abandoning the moral compass that has been given to us by our Creator God.
For mankind to survive and thrive, there has to be a standard, there has to be an understood moral code. Without that standard- anything goes. Rape is ok, killing innocent people is ok, lying is ok, defrauding people of money is ok, destroying other people’s property is ok, human trafficking is ok. What does it matter if we are all just chemical accidents? If we as a society continue down the path of no standards, our society won’t be ended by God’s judgement, no- we will just end up destroying ourselves.
My prayer for you this week is that as you are bombarded with the absurdities of the news headlines, that you would remain firmly grounded in the truth of God’s word. May you be unwavering in upholding the standard that God has given His creation. And secondly, I want to pray for you as you engage with others- whether in person, or through social media- that you would be given wisdom and boldness in how to interact. And I pray that with love, you would share your biblical viewpoint. In a world that is quickly losing its grip on what is true or false, right or wrong, may we as God’s people have opportunity to offer the solution God has offered to all of mankind- relationship with Him through Jesus and through upholding His standard. I’m cheering you on church- in this new world we are living in- I pray not that you just survive, but that you will thrive.
